Happy October! Spook Night Cometh!
Spook Night is the Wayrift equivalent of our Halloween celebration. Since the Authors enjoy the holiday, the Wayrift figments do, too. Figments dress up in costumes, play pranks, host haunted houses and all around have a good time.
In the past, it was a tradition to host a Figment Costume Art thread in the Sygnus forums. For one reason or another, we lost track of that tradition and haven’t done this in years. Since the upload a picture function has been working well in the Wayrift comment section, I decided to revive the tradition and place it in a Wayrift post instead. So here’s what we’ve got!
1- Draw/design your figments in their Spook Night costumes. This can be your figments dressed up as other figments… your figments dressed up as traditional Halloween costumes… your figments cosplaying anime/movies/books/game characters. Whatever you want it to be!
2- Return to this thread and scroll down to the bottom of the comments section.
3- Type out your post and then click the “Choose File” button under the comment text box.
4- Upload your image to your comment and send it like you normally would.
5- Return here to comment on costumes and see what other people have to say about yours!
You have until the stroke of midnight of November 1st! Have fun!

I ended up redoing this piece about four times until I got the sketch down to how I wanted it. I’m glad I was persistent though.
He was almost going as the Fool…but the Wheel fit him better. :3

Hehee~! I know right? He has the ability to look somewhat lost even when he’s not. ^^; I figured I’d go with Roman attire since the original card has Fortuna on it.
Jayce needs a friend like Kali too…or else who would force him out of his shell every so often. Xanda is more mellow and a bit of a grounding person for Jayce but Kali gets him unbalanced enough to try different things that he wouldn’t normally do.

Although I actually can see him joking around and singing Haloween songs just for fun.
Ryder has the tendency to surprise me, and he has quite the tragic past, but before all of that he was very happy. He’s also MUCH older than he looks. He’s Vilandra’s oldest child and has four brothers and a sister. He’s actually a couple of hundered years old due to his Elfin blood.
But he does act grumpy in the RP a lot. I want to show that other side of him soon, but I don’t know when I’ll have the chance…

Marked Talon is super scary…
I like the effect too! The blue eye around the monochrome colors makes the gloom and doom really stick out. :O

My second costume. This year, LiChu Ya decided to dress up as Gakupo, the Vocaloid.
I can’t IMAGINE how much this costume had to cost to put together, and it’s a bit too acurate. This could basically pass as a Gaku recolor. XD

Alright. Here goes nothing. I didn’t even draw this one first, just because I don’t have a tablet and I’m not running about begging for a scanner again. Well, not for a while.
So, here as Karnuovia as the “Conte di Luna” from Il Trovatore by Verdi. In his own words: “Yeah, the count is a bit of a jerk, but darn did he look spiffy in that one version…” Also, it isn’t far off from what he usually wears… And at this rate you will have him on one of the moons, or that lunar base camp, doing a census. He likes puns too much, you see.

With an outfit like that I might just consider it! I mean, his character flaws aren’t my own (he is rash, jealous, and has a jerkiness streak a mile wide… then again, he’s a noble), but it is Halloween, right?
But I’d probably be hit by a car. I’m fairly sure it isn’t the brightest…
And I swear that the whole “counting Lunars” pun was made up on the spot. I did not plan it, it just happened.
And, don’t worry, I didn’t even know what Il Trovatore was about until last weekend. I just knew there were gypsies and singing and the hitting of anvils.

Well, I tried to almost make it Wayriftish… as can be seen from the eyebrows (if I supported coloured eyebrows I better use them too!) but I kinda went my own way.
Strangely though, when drawing, the face reminded me of… those little troll face things. I certainly didn’t do it on purpose. I think it had something to do with the chin, and maybe the smile. Karnuovia would like that I think…
But it turned out like something else too. It is kinda frustrating that I can’t figure it out.

Also, Holland is the name of a province in the Netherlands. It was one of the most prominent provinces way back when so when people dealt with the nation as a whole they tended to deal with Holland. Thus, the Netherlands kind of ended up with the name as a whole.
At least, that’s how I’ve heard it from history class and people from there…

That’s pretty much what it boils down to yes. With one minor addition: in the current state, Holland is not one province but two. There’s North Holland and South Holland.
They are still the most prominent provinces of the coutry. Just be careful saying such things to people from other provinces. There’s a few people that are rather sensitive about it.

I keep meaning to draw mine, and finally got it done tonight! It’s just a quickie with only base colors, but it’s here.
I need to explain a bit about this for non Guild Wars players.
First, I always laugh when folks call Chase “Chaur” (part Aur, part Chase). The reason being, there’s a race of lion-ish warrior creatures in the game “Guild Wars” called “Charr.” So I tend to always think about that when I read “Chaur.” Being the lion thing, it’s a perfect costume.
The girl is a character that won’t be introduced into Wayrift for a long, long time from now. Her name is Waif and she is a mind mage who likes to pick at Chase all the time, especially about a certain lion situation.
In “Guild Wars,” there is a mesmer character (which is similar to a mind mage) who is very much anti-Charr. Her name is Gwen and she makes the perfect costume for Waif to carry out her mischief on Spook Night.
