NOTE: The Authors were on vacation last week, so they left the Wayrift update in the hands of the figments — namely, our favorite Baronian Red Shirt, Junior. This is a three part comic triggered by the “Sword vs. Scythe” conversation located in the comments section on Chapter 42, Page 17. These pages will also contain references that poke fun at the original version of “Final Fantasy IV” and the PSP version of “Dissidia.” Our regularly scheduled comic will return next week. Enjoy!
Junior: This is for all those kind people who ruined my day today, suggesting that Mr. Tai and King Cecil should spar! Have you ever heard of “don’t shoot the messenger?” Well, apparently Queen Rosa and the Eblanian delegation that I had to explain this all to… didn’t! Ahh… well… Life of a redshirt.
Junior the red shirt lieutenant peon presents…
SWORDIE
Vs.
SCYTHIE
From the training room!
Presented in stick fighter Juniorvision for your pleasure!
The Scythe
The black blade DuLlafn wielded by his father Zento… most effective at longer and medium ranges… a heavy blow could likely cut through several enemies at once… especially in the hands of TsuYaTai.
The Sword
Classical weapon of knights and warriors throughout history. Good for both medium and short range fighting, the Paladin King has defeated many an enemy with his sword of light…
Tai: I win. The End.
BSC: No chopping off limbs now, Mr. Tai.
Tai: Why not? You have more than one arm and one leg.
BSC: At least I didn’t have a tail until the author revised you?
Tai: That better not go in the comic.
BSC: Oops… *swings his sword around and brings it in front of him to a guard position * Let’s see what you’re made of today, Mr. Tai.
Tai: You really don’t want to know. *narrows his eyes and crouches with his scythe*
BSC: *swings his sword to meet with Tai’s scythe*
Tai: *bounds back and flickers*
BSC: What the?

Tsu used to have a tail? XD

*sigh*
Actually, the original Marked designs in Dreigiau suggested long ears and a tail. This was before I knew TsuYa was going to turn Marked… or even what the Marked really were. Once I developed them further, I went back and (hopefully) edited it out of the old drafts.
But Syn didn’t let me forget.

My money’s on Cecil. And Tai with a tail sounds about right.

I’ll be hopping on the opposite side of this bet. My money is on Tai. I will always be willing to bet on the more awesome of the figments

Tai….or Cecil….or Tai….or Cecil……..I think I’ll put my money on Rosa.

Oh… and let me say… Syn has forever joked about filling a vacation week of Wayrift with her stick figure artwork. You guys just had to give her a reason to actually do it. It’s her first comic attempt… so be nice. ^_~ She got to see the kind of stuff I have to do every week in working with consistency, flow and scripts to make a proper update. *laugh*
She did good! *applauds* I appreciate her spending her vacation time to give me a week off.

I like it! Nothing wrong with stick figures. If xkcd can pull it off, you guys can too.

That is quite good for stick figures I gotta say.
I like Tai as a character more… but I like scythes far less than a good sword.

i love the “padding” on the weapons (and my first thought was “why is cecil holding a ‘bread-on-a-stick’?? where is the campfire to roast it in?”
Give Luv:

My question was… would it do any good? I mean. With Tai. Doesn’t that nullify protective padding of any type?

OMG! They all look so adorable as stick-people!

Hey! They’re nice stick figures. As long as you can say who the characters are, then you did well. So good job, Syn! ^-^ Also, it’s great that something that came from a side comment shows up as a mini-comic XD
(*grabs her popcorn*) Now, on with the show! I don’t care who wins, as long as this is a good match… And it looks promising ^0^

You’d be surprised how much Syn and I discuss your comments and the conversations that happen below the comic pages. ^_~

All I can say is, this is great.

We thought you guys might like it. Just take a break from all the plot tension… for a short time, anyhow.

Two things I just noticed – Junior got demoted, Hah! Secondly, Tai’s scythe really looks like Asteroth’s from Soul Caliber, just the way the blade seems a lot flatter.

Ooh, this will be good.
