I’ve mentioned on and off that I was working on self publishing Dreigiau in paperback form. Well, today I received my proof copy from Create Space — and it is AMAZING! I’m so thrilled with the quality of the print and of the service I’ve received while working to create this book. It has one of those ISBN book bar codes and everything… it’s the real deal!
I will be making some changes on the cover. Now that I have the book in hand, I can line things up a bit better.
I’ll be editing my PDF to use a smaller font to see if I can’t lower the word count some, which in turn, will lower the price. The price as it is set right now isn’t terrible, but isn’t great. So I’m going to see what I can do to make it cheaper.
I’m going to re-read through the paperback for one more full edit. So this might take some time. I love the layout — it all worked great! See some inside pictures below.
Visit Dreigiau’s publishing page here. The info on this page, particularly the price and the number of pages, is subject to change since I’m trying to find ways to make it a bit cheaper. Any thoughts or ideas would be appreciated!
Quick Update: Yes, I did change the font to a smaller size and it cut $2 off the price of the book. Much better! What you see on the page now is probably what will be — I don’t want to make the font any smaller!

Huzzah! It really looks good from the pictures. Good luck getting it all the way there!
Oh, and I’m still going to order the first copy
.
Thanks, Al! *hugs*
It’s pretty much there. I just want to read over it one last time. You know how that goes. I’ll have to wait on a second proof to come back to me after the changes are made. Then I’ll approve that proof if all looks well and it’ll be up for sale.
Is $8.99 a reasonable price, in your opinion? It’s a large glossy cover paperback – 5.5 x 8.5, so it’s not one of the small sizes. I just couldn’t see shrinking down my artwork any smaller… and the map image inside was already taking a beating as it is. XD
8.99 isn’t a bad price to me. Of course, I’m more used to looking at game prices than book prices since I usually just rent from the library, but it’s definitely something I’ll pay.
Looking at base prices of commercial books $7.99 – $9.99 seem a reasonable price. Price was always a big issue with self publishing. It used to be you could get a book self published but would cost like $20 for people to buy a copy. And that always bugged me. It’s gotten much cheaper to print on demand, I’m guessing.
The funny part of it is that the place it was printed and mailed from is about a hour and a half drive from my house. I wondered how my order got here so fast! *laugh*
BTW, in case folks don’t know, Create Space is a part of Amazon.com. So it’s all legit! I’ll even have an Amazon.com storefront, eventually.
Sorry for the spam. I just noticed the “For the most part” on the end of the “work of fiction” note, and had to comment on it.
Oh yes… my humor is in the book. Mostly in the Table of Contents and the extra sections I’ve include in the Appendix. There’s a bit of me rambling at the end about how the story started, how characters developed and the basic history of the Inner Realms — stuff I haven’t posted anywhere else.
Ooooohhh… shiny!
Excellent news. Now I just have to wait… then figure out how to get my hands on it.
Geez, that’s cheaper then the copy of Lord of the Flies I bought…..
I gotta ask: Is it illustrated?
And… Waiting. I’m no good at waiting.
Sorry, no illustrations. Making images the proper DPI and then shrinking them to fit the pages doesn’t turn out very well with my artwork. I had to spend quite a bit of time on the dragon icon you see there and it still came out fuzzier than I would have liked. (Plus I simply don’t have sketches for those chapters anyhow! XD Yes. Still. Sorry!)
Ah, oh well. I still can’t wait for it to come out! ^^
Thanks for the encouragement everyone! I’ll get to reading and proofing as soon as I can. I’ve already found a lot of little mistakes. Why is it that reading on page you can catch these things better than on screen?
Yes yes YES! I was just thinking yesterday how it would be awesome to have Dregiau in a book form so I wouldn’t need internet access to read it… this is gonna be great!
The cover art looks reeeeeaaaally awesome, by the way. :3
Thank you! It’s fuzzy compared to the real art since it’s a photo. I’ll post the real art soon!
That’s really cool. I’ve been looking into publishing through them. I’m glad your having a good experience with them.
They’re certainly worth looking into if you want to self-publish. I’ve looked around at different print on demand for years. This was my first time giving it a shot. It looks like a book I’d buy at a bookstore, ISBN number and all. In fact, you can actually distribute your book to bookstores through them. I just have to learn more about how that’s done, though.
Omygosh! Congratulations Aywren!
I’m so happy for you! XD
…I SO want one!
(Looking through her account to see if she can buy it soon)
Thank you! ^_^
Don’t worry… you have plenty of time to save up. Looks like I have a number of edits to make on this and I’ve only read to Chapter 5 so far! D :
Not many? Not many books you mean?
The number of books is unlimited. You purchase from Create Space (or Amazon.com) and they print the book on demand. There is as many books as there needs to be, available whenever you you want to buy it.
…ah, ok…then I can be patient.
I have to say, though, that I didn’t realize from reading it online that book one was big enough to need to be its own book!
Yeah. 200+ pages. I was surprised, too. The other books are going to be huge! : o
YAY! Want one!!!
Woot!
I must say that $8.99 isn’t THAT bad of a price. I’ve seen books with fewer pages selling for more.
Thanks Gaby. They set the base price, of course, depending on how many pages are in the book and maybe the size.
I’m glad the price seems reasonable!
-GASPS-!!!!! omg! i think my Graphics teacher thinks im insane cuz i just saw this and was dancing in my seats!!!!! WOOOOHOOOOO!!!!!!!! way to go! i cant wait to buy it so i can read it and make all my friends read it!!! -has been trying to get them to read but they dont like online comics-
Well, it’s not Wayrift in book form, so it won’t be a comic. It’s purely a text novel — but I hope you do get one and share it with all your friends.
I’m hoping people will pass it around to as many people as might enjoy it. Word of mouth from folks who currently read the online projects is going to be very important to getting the book out and about.
