There had always been stories, even from the days that I first visited over two decades ago. Afterall, this place is a graveyard.
It was only when I heard the stories of the young Captain* who climbed the mountain and returned a Paladin that I began to suspect. And when that confounded Paladin — now king of Baron, may I add — refused to grant me audience, I grew even more curious…”
*= KluYa’s youngest son, Cecil Harvey. He climbed the mountain as a Dark Knight Captain and was granted the light and power of the Holy Paladin from his father’s spirit at the summit. However, it is doubtful that Kory knows the whole story of Cecil’s transformation from dark to light.
so this is kind of a sequel to final fantasy 4?

Yep, this is a fan work sequel (though it has so much original content, we often don’t advertise it as that). We do our best to stick close to the original oldschool FFIV content while exploring a lot of things we enjoy in the world.
This story was written many years before “The After,” however. So it does not follow anything developed in the Square/Enix sequel.

after all, like anything fan-made, it’s gonna differ a bit from the source, right? it’s great to see new takes on charactersone’s grown to see a certain way.

There’s some artistic liberties taken with our stories and designs, but we try to stay true to the original FFIV as much as possible.
Again, we created many of these characters nearly 20 years ago and the comic is almost a decade old. So that was long before “The After” and additional information was released. We kept on doing our own thing, though and pretty much ignored all the changes that the new releases added.
It’s always great to have another FF fan on board! Wonderful to meet you! Just take your time and enjoy. Feel free to ask questions as I’ll always see your comments (as you can tell). People around the site are more than happy to help!
