My first thought when I woke up (about 30 minutes ago): “Wednesday, right? That means a new Wayrift page, in colour. In colour? OMG yes, in colour!”

Well, I switched to cell shading shadows in black and white for a few weeks because I thought it would look cleaner. I realized that by doing that, I wasn’t actually doing all that much more work than I would if I painted it in color. So I talked to Syn about it and we agreed to give it a shot.
We actually agreed on it weeks ago, but didn’t want to change to color in the middle of a chapter. So we held off until the start of chapter 50.

Actually I am not suprised, as a lot of artist I know when to color after starting to do better cell shading and dithering.

Well, it’s nothing I haven’t been doing already in the Shimmer remakes and some of the later Shimmer chapters (though I hope I’ve gotten better at it over the years). I just never considered doing it for Wayrift because of the three pages a week.
It is a lot of coloring, don’t get me wrong! But even after finishing the flats this week, Syn kept saying, “It’s worth it.”

His eye/hair/skin tone combination does make for a very striking image, if nothing else. It might look strange on someone else (Ben, for instance) but his personality and facial features pull it all together.

Yes, you’re right. Zeb’s eyes are very narrow and often slitty.
Two things that Syn told me years ago when I first started trying to draw her figments: 1- Zeb has very narrow eyes 2- Zeb has a rather boxy, square-shape to his jaw and chin (when viewing from the front). I try to remember that when I draw him!

Hm… This page seems very storyline arc conclusive, which means another character is probably going to pop up soon either this week or next. Though I am curious if the first character Ben and Zeb run into will be expected or unexpected. Any hints Aywren?

Actually, pretty much all the cast of the Borderlands are going to show up — I mentioned before that this is going to close up the entire Book 1 story (though not in the next few weeks, unless you count a flashback sequence!).
As Zeb noted in this page, Ben and Zeb are going to go their separate ways. We won’t be seeing Zeb again until sometime in Book 2. But who Ben runs into first when he returns to the Borderlands is not completely unexpected.
