I like. The sky is a bit aqua-tinted, but otherwise it’s like suddenly waking up and *really* seeing things. It’s an added layer of convincingness; we don’t have to guess anymore.
Translation: I like!!!!!
Very nice. Very very nice and I think you nearly killed me.
And here I was thinking, learning to actually be able to say (or sorta sing) the entire Modern Major General Song was an accomplishment… and bammo! I see this! Absolutely amazing.
Furthermore… Almost done book 1? Congrats! Soon we will see more stuff happening! Yay! Story story story!
Also… Comic Sans… I don’t, personally have anything against it… but… I know a visual arts persony person and apparently…
Hahah… thought it might be a *little* surprise. And, yeah, we moved away from Comic Sans. Poor font. : /
Anyhow, glad you’re liking it! And yes, Book 2 is on its way! Which means I’m painting the Lunar Colony in full color if we hang on to this style that long (not to mention everyone’s design-a-Lunars — no I didn’t forget!). Gosh… I better get ready for that. It’s bad enough that I have to try and paint Zeromus next week. ^_~
You know, I have often thought it would be awesome to have Wayrift in colour. But there was always this voice in my head saying: “too much work” for me to seriously hope it to happen.
So yes, I absolutely love it, and hope this madness fits into your schedule.
We’re going to do our best to maintain it. This just means no slacking on painting until the end of the week. *laughs*
I’ve always thought it would be too much work, too. But as I noted, when I started painting in cell shading, I realized I was doing nearly nothing different than I would if I were painting color. The exception is the backgrounds… but that’s okay. I need to practice painting backgrounds anyhow.
And I’m certainly not complaining. If you say it’s not that much extra work, I’m only jumping up and down of excitement even more. Or hopping. Bunny-hopping. I’ll indulge you for this happy occasion, Syn.
Yep! Ben is color coordinated. Though we did have a moment of wondering whether to color his hair tie the same as his cloak or the same as his eyes/tiara. Do you like the cloak color best?
I think guys often wore their hair tie in the same color as their hair, but I like cloak color best. Of course, Ben must change it simultaneously with it
I’m afraid, eyes/tiara color could be in nasty contrast with cloak.
Hm, Ben likes green color most, doesn’t he? How many cloak has he in his wardrobe? Or better question – how many colors? How many shades of green? In any case, he needs as many hair ties
Ben has quite a few cloaks in his closet, most of them are shades of green (and one that has fur on it like MKY’s cloak!) but he does have a black one he doesn’t wear often.
I’m not sure how green ended up his favorite color. In the concept work for Ben, I dressed him in greens and browns to accent the fact that he preferred dressing in commoner-colors rather than stand out with colors nobles or royalty would wear. Eventually I got rid of the browns and moved towards the green — it helps that in the original game, Golbez cast green lightning bolts and such.
A bit of Ben Trivia: Ben’s modifications cause him to not feel heat or cold as a normal person does. This isn’t as good as it sounds as he can easily take damage from hot or cold weather and not realize it. He may not feel it, but he still can get sick from heat stroke or frost bite! Leona used to get in a huff when he’d walk around wearing a heavy cloak during the hot summer months… she got him some proper summer clothes eventually!
I think Miran has a purplish tint to her hair, too. Have to check with Syn on that. She was the one that picked Zeb’s color pallet, but I did suggest to her not to go full-on black with his hair and clothes.
So, now that I’m done commenting on the color… the chapter title interests me. I can see a few different things it could refer to, so I’m curious to discover which it will be.
Pretty much all the things we can sum up we are going to work out in this chapter. We have a lot of loose ends we need to tend to (some you aren’t expecting!) before we launch Book 2!
Book 2 is officially going to take us in a completely different direction. We’re finally getting to the point where we’ve created a foundation for our characters and now it’s time to ramp up the storylines! I know that sounds odd… but I really feel like we’re done “introducing” our characters and can move on to non-introduction conflicts.
COLOR! @.@ *is mesmerized by the color and loses 5 rounds*
I hope that the color isn’t too much effort for you two. Though I will be really excited if it lasts for the lunar chapter. ^.^ *has wishful thinking*
*now has a mental image of Kip being involved*
KiNa, your next mission for becoming an acceptable member of Baron society is to find clothes for Zeb.
*Kip gets new mission “Cloth Zeb* (note it doesn’t say how or what)
*coughs something about lunars and their egos*
*eyes Kip’s muscles* No wonder why Zazo calls you a playtoy. You aren’t even big enough for a snack. I suppose that is what she gets for using techies.
^.^ I have just created a solution to invading mind mages. *patents it*
STEP RIGHT UP! Ever wake up and find you couldn’t remember what you had been doing? Tired of mind mages invading your mind and sleep? Well, this new and patented method chases off mindmages faster than you can say 2+2. Call now and get the book including this method and other methods to chase away mind mages starting at $20 (not including shipping and handling) (prices may vary and product is not guarenteed to work. user discression may apply)
Also, just realized, you didn’t say where the shirt had to come from. So, we could strip the shirt off of Ben and put it on Zeb thus ending up with a shirtless Golbez even if it is a different one. (is mercilessly adding fangirls here)
How has he managed to stay shy while surrounded by Kip, Zeb and even Zemi? You would think that they would gang up on him about that, at least to tease him about it.
Also, that is what paint is for. Though, the scant 2 seconds that it would take Ben to remember the spell would still be enough for rabid fan girls to take pictures. *shudders*
Most of the figments tend not to make too much fun of Ben for things like being shy. They’re pretty understanding, believe it or not.
Zeb is the most likely to pick at Ben, but that’s because they’re brothers and that’s what brothers do. And that’s what Zeb does when he likes someone.
Zemi is already in deep water with Ben and learns really quickly that Ben tends not to tolerate Zemi’s sense of humor. So, he pretty much never teases Ben. They still have relationship issues to work through. Yes. Still.
Kip… well, Kip has too much to make up to Ben to want to make fun of him. Kip saves his joking for Aiden.
Actually I thought that Zemi would more encourage him to get over his shyness than provoke Ben. I was more thinking that Zeb might cause up some trouble. Having an older sibling, I get a little too much of “sibling love” myself sometimes.
Ben doesn’t tend to look to Zemi for encouragement. He’d look to Aiden or Leona first. Zemi messed up with Ben in the early days and it’s been tough for me to mend things between them — Ben often sees Zemi as annoying, brash and arrogant. But Zemi’s gotten better in his older age… so there’s still a chance.
Ben’s just shy-ish by nature. He can be brave when he needs to be, but he has a sensitivity that causes him to be quiet and in the background. The Golbez thing also encourages that… he’s very aware of how he might come off to other people because he’s always trying to prove that he’s really a good guy.
Other figments let Ben be Ben and seem to care about him despite his uncertainty. I suppose it’s because he has a place to fill as a supporter, listener, teacher and protector. As Ben gets older, others tend to come to him when they need someone who will listen and give advice without judgement — he has an open mind and laid back personality, which seems to encourage people to look to Ben when they need a friend.
It’s often Leona who helps him break out of his shell most often, though everyone in his family really supports Ben equally.
My power goes out for a day, and I return to this!
Its pages like these that make me realize that this comic isn’t in color XD
I’m so used to it I don’t even realize sometimes! Its Wonderful!
Oh, no… I hope everything is alright there? Was it the storm?
We’re really happy about such a wonderful response to the color page! Thank you (and everyone) for all the comments. Syn just finished the color flats for next week, so be sure we’re going to keep working to bring Wayrift in color!
Just wait until I have to paint real magic effects! *laughs*
Is it my imagination or is Ben being more perceptive than Zeb about the Choco-Skunk’s mild form of magic resistance? Also…
“PURPLE!!! :: Gwomp! ::” Since a lot of the comments I have about most pages seem to involve a certain amount of in/coherent rambling about cuteness and such I mostly keep them to myself.
Zeb skin seems kind of washed out to me, I’m not quite sure why… could just be my computer.
Yes, Ben is somewhat concerned about Junior’s resistance to mind magic here… while Zeb is just shrugging it off.
Zeb does have a very pale skin tone — Syn chose the palette for Zeb. While it appears fine on my screen, I could see how it would be washed out if you have a brighter monitor. : /
Um…just one, teeny-tiny little spelling quibble…palette is a range of colors (or the board you put the paints on). A pallet is a wooden platform used for carting stuff around.
Thank you! I’ll try to correct myself in the future. Honestly didn’t realize there was a spelling difference (I understand it now, though), so thanks for explaining.
I’ve read your comic for a couple of years now and haven’t left a comment or a word behind but I think for today’s comic merits something. Wayrift is an absolutely wonderful masterpiece an of writing and art. It kept me riveted from the first moment I read it and my interest in it still continues strong everyday. My thanks to all the people and effort that goes into making this comic what it is and what it means to the uncountable numbers of people who stumble in or are brought together by those who were enraptured by Wayrift and had to spread the word. Once again, thanks for all the hard work, love the new color and hope to see even greater things on horizons of tomorrow. Keep fit and have fun. Enjoy every accolade thrown your way, you deserve it.
Thank you so very much, Longmasher! Your kind words are very, very encouraging to us — I just can’t express it!
Wayrift is just as much about the people here as it is about the comic. We’re always humbled and grateful for all the support, enthusiasm and talent that surrounds us on this site.
Glad to hear from you and hope to hear from you again! Take care and keep enjoying Wayrift. We’ll keep it coming, I promise.
