Looking at it, it appears to have to do with contrast to other colors. The background on the webpage doesn’t have intensity because it is all white with a few bits of black and blue text on it and a few pictures. Ax is against a black background, and if you look closely, he is not all pure white. His tail is a bit more off-white, for example. The spell that he is casting is also off-white, except for the sparkles. That’s my observation on it, anyways. I don’t daubble with making shiny things that often so Aywren could probably tell you more about it than me.
Yep, you’re right. It’s all about the contrast. If you put something even semi-white against a dark background and give it a bit of a blur, it appears to glow. But it’s not really any brighter than any other pure white on your screen. It’s just an illusion.
You’re also right that it’s not pure white — mostly because I want to give Ax some internal features (even if those are mostly obscured). Not to mention this is still a night scene, so I’m trying to factor in some of the nighttime effects as well.

I sense something transformative (transfigurative?) about to happen (or, as I should say, happening)…

It’s amazing what pure white on a computer screen can do. *laughs*

Hmmm, but the background here is white, no?
It definately doesn’t have the intensity that Ax has, though. So it doesn’t seem like it’s as simple as leaving a white spot.
I’ve always been curious how you make stuff look so shiny.

Poor, poor Zebby, getting his big scary shadow armor all shined away because he raged at his dad.
Proof, kids, that no matter how old you are, and that your dad is, you’re never really good enough to beat him.

Well Zeb… I hope that armor you’ve got is REEEEAAALLY good. Otherwise we might be having Zeb burgers.
