Kory: Now if either of you ultra-uber-powerful beings can free my friend here, it would be nice.
Leona: *looks up at Ben with a nod* I think it’s okay, Benny.
Ben: Alright. I’ll try.
Kory: Great! Let’s get to work!
Leona: *brings out the hammer* Bring that sword here! I’ll smash it to bits!
Kory: *ushers Leona away* I think we better let Ben and Zemi do this.
Leona: Awww…
Tai: Seriously, let the weird people do the weird things.
Leona: *mutters* Pot calling the kettle black.
Tai: What?
Leona: Nothing! *innocent smile*

Yeah, Tai, I… don’t really think you can talk about weird things except from experience. After all, after being one of the longest-lived non-Arweinydd characters, you’ve been through plenty of weird stuff.
Yeah, pretty much only Aur can boast being older, and he can’t remember it anyways.
Leona seems to have already picked up Tai’s weirdness from the couple hours she has known him. Very observant she is.
Aur is probably the oldest non-Arweinydd in the story (though he’s been through periods of hibernation and recreation). Funny how he’s currently the youngest character in Wayrift. ^_~
Meh. He’s a Watcher-thingamajig. He doesn’t count. Especially since he usually can’t remember most of his past.
….Yet….
Actually, I haven’t decided what sort of race Aur was originally from. I have a few ideas floating around but nothing I’ve solidified yet.
I’m going to go ahead and guess that Tsu’s “what” was more from not knowing what the phrase meant then not hearing.
But I do so love his face in the 5th panel.
And Leona, as fun as it is to smash things, don’t if there’s another alternative. Especially not a fancy sword that’s the favorite of a level 99 Paladin.
I think Tai’s “What” was more of a “Say that again… louder. To my face.” sort of thing. He knows what it means. He just wants Leona to know he heard her. XD
I just noticed a glaring flaw in the “lets smash the thing until KluYa comes out” plan. That being that, while yes it is made out of crystal, it is also a freaking sword! And a functional one at that! A regular sword of decent quality would be expected to come into high-impact situations regularly. Heck, every time some big mean bad guy comes rushing at Cecil with the intention of tearing the pretty boy apart, and he raises his sword to block whatever it is he throws at him, he expects it to not only sustain the blow without breaking, but be in good enough shape to hit back. In short it probably take a lot more than Leona with her bottom-tier wooden hammer there to break it. I’m sure somebody there (Tai) could pull it off, but it sure wouldn’t be as easy as throwing the thing against the wall. It’d probably just stick into the wall and somebody would have to fix that hole.
Sorry about that long rant there, I just had to get that out. Other than that, this is a fantastic page. I like the change in moods after the third panel. Also I think Leona is my favorite character in this page (she’s usually pretty high up there but doubly for this page). Her calling Ben “Benny” in a non-insulting, endearing way was probably one of the most adorable things I’ve seen all day. Then there is the fourth panel where she has her “smashing face” on. And finally, there is her exchange with Tai at the end. That was just priceless.
You’re right. There’s no possible way Leona (or most of the others) could smash Cecil’s legendary crystal sword… which was part of the joke on this page. ^_~
Leona is only 14 or 15. She hasn’t learned about Hardness, Strength, Toughness, K(IC) or Charpy Impact Toughness yet. ; )
So that makes me ask.. what type of crystal is the crystal sword? Both ductile and hard, and able to hold an edge as well? Too bad it really doesn’t exist. It would make my life easier?
Well… I’ve come to accept that this family in particular brings out the mother in me, so I won’t say anything save that you shouldn’t be scared if I decide to hug Cecil to at any given moment XD
And… Tai shouldn’t say anything about weirdness. I’m still wondering WHO’S NORMAL in that group.
Being normal is overrated.
Normalacy is for the uninspired!
I was going to start a rant using inverse psicology… But meh, that’s boring. Yeah, normalcy is overrated XD
One could say that being abnormal is normal here.
Abnormal?
Whats so abnormal about freeing a lunarian from a magical, holy crystal sword owned by your brother in some alternate dimension by smashing it to bits?
I thinks that’s pretty normal
I don’t see anything abnormal about it eater, which makes it normal, and if normal is abnormal…. *brain implosion*
Normal? what’s that? never heard of “normal” before. what is it and where can i download some? -smiles and pets stuffed Appa-
And because i havent been keeping up now that i’m home, way to go Kory with the epic ramble-rant to rally the group! I figured he became a professor somehow…
That’s true. Kory isn’t called a Professor for nothing!
May I ask why is he called a professor?
ps. CHIBI LEONA, TAI AND KORY!!! Horray!
Because he is, in fact, a scholar/professor. Kory’s a member of the High Council of the Academy of Sciences — that’s what that little star on his collar indicates (when I draw it on his outfit).
More information on his profile page if you want it: http://www.wayrift.com/professor-kory/
You have a stuffed Appa?
Wow… comment page did a funny thing today. I guess that means all comments are luved!
Edit: Nevermind. It fixed itself when I posted. Go figure.
You killed the luv, congratulations.
What Leona said to Tai reminds me of a conversation I had with a friend over a strange comment of his.
It happens sometimes. Killing the luv, I mean.
I gave luv to that completely for the irony.
It’s a pretty normal conversation with me. I’ll say something odd (which I find very fun), and usually someone will ask me “What?” And I invariably answer with “nothing”.
Really? I normally just say “Exactly!” and laugh hysterically.
My response is usually a cocked head along with “Pika?” or “Mew?”
It’s all part of my evil plan to get folks to laugh. *evil grin*
*Suddenly curious* Wren, what program do you draw in?
I use a tablet PC to draw everything digitally into the program Flash MX. Not the newest version of Flash, I know, but I’ve used it for years for my linework and don’t plan on changing unless something major comes along that works better for me.
Syn usually helps me out by filling in the base paint colors for each page (using Photoshop, I believe). I go in behind her in Photoshop and add shadowing, shading and any special effects the page needs. And of course, I shrink it down, add speech bubbles and text.
I do all the Photoshop work on a full-sized PC using the Intuos3 tablet.
Even Leona knows not to mess with Mr. Noble Grouchy … Though he wouldn’t hit a girl.
