Bigeared: ~So what’s the point, Dreigiau?~ *paces* ~Dragons have all been replaced by the flying-ships of Baron, and the hunters push us further into the mountains.~
Zemi: The point is… Dragons should be loved!
Silver: I know…
CD: ~Let dragons be dragons and men be men. Men only love themselves. And they are too stupid and skittish to be civilized!~

“Dragons should be loved.”
That’s all Zemi understands. XD
Aww….. *huggles poor Zemi* Dragons ARE loved!
Seconded both points!
poor da zemi!!
As someone with a major dragon obsession, I concur with Tweek.
T___T Zemi… I hope he gets a cute Valentine.
awww, poor gragons, you may not be loved in that universe but You’re loved by the people who look into it….
Man that sounded creepy.
“Let dragons be dragons and men be men. Men only love themselves. And they are too stupid and skittish to be civilized!”
Sounds like a certain half-dragon ranger I know…
“Let dragons be dragons and men be men. Men only love themselves. And they are too stupid and skittish to be civilized!”
Too stupid and skittish eh? Only love themselves eh? If that doesn’t stink of an attitude of cultural superiority then I don’t know what does. I love cynics and all that, but cynical dragon isn’t just cynical. (s)He (???) is also prejudiced. If (s)he were really cynical (s)he would think that dragons are the same way too. For crying out loud! I’m just gonna use “it” from now on until I know better!
I can tell you now, I bet that if critters that looked an awful lot like humans (and if dragons had a complex social structure that allowed the transmission of ideas and news of events rapidly without those involved actually having witnessed said ideas or events, thus leaving open the road to gossip and exaggeration… and it seems like dragons do have this…).
Er where was I? Oh right, if critters that looked an awful lot like humans (to a dragon’s eyes) were going around and eating dragon babies and other dragons heard about it, I bet most of them would incinerate first and ask questions later. Especially if the creature they saw was near to their eggs/babies. This seems totally reasonable to me. Potential threat to baby vs potentially frying an innocent creature, who actually might be trying to eat my baby. I’d take the risk. And compound this with the possibility that the dragons wouldn’t know that most humans were intelligent anyway, and so not be able to tell the difference, or even consider negotiations.
That being said, the idea of a bunch of dragons accusing humans of being babyeaters has such an ironic ring to me that I have to laugh. Hardy har har.
This has been a message from the committee of: ‘Human nature and how it effects everything, is inherent to any thinking being (even if it isn’t human), and including the specifically dark side of it which, thereunto, and henceforth, messes up the everyone’s life.’
This committee is so far made up of one person. Me. On a more or less part time basis. Cheers.
this is the longest post i have ever seen….. ‘_’
Anyway, I prettymuch agree!
Yikes, sorry about the length there, didn’t entirely notice. Hope it doesn’t cause too much annoyance. Though in all honesty I have seen and written more (just not here I think). It could be worse though, I might have gone further into the inductive method of learning and how that shapes society and how it would have affected dragons. Yeah…
Can – No no no, it’s a good post.
We must remember that the cynical dragon is merely being “cynical” – or mistrustful, as the word meaning CD’s generation has not seen much good in humans, and have been forced to the mountains by “those who hunt dragons.” Most of the dragons of this world are actually pretty -good- creatures, being that they have not retaliated for their losses. What they have learned from the past, does not match what they see of current human behavior.
And of course, BSC is just as bad. He’s cynical and prejudiced and paranoid just as bad as some of the distrustful dragons. But in a funny way, it’s these character flaws that I enjoy the most – that make them real. I suppose I could have made him perfect in everyway… but in the funny ways, it is the flaws of the heroes that make us want to react – whether hug them or hate them.
To be honest, the CD actually has quite a lot to be cynical about. In two generations, the relationship between dragon and men has really been torn apart – it was likely part of the plan for those who wanted to see the king fall. Dragons (let’s say, true dragons) actually have probably taken a lot of flack without retaliation. A fair amount of them have been slain without any provocation, and instead of initiating a mass counterattack and blasting the humans of baron off the face of the planet, they’ve merely retreated. CD does understand what you said.. he’s just one of the dragons that wants to be left alone.
(Unsociable dragons?)
Ah. I wouldn’t say that CD’s reaction is entirely flawed either though I suppose.
And as for BSC, he’s a bit of a jerk, but that’s why we love him! (Okay, so he is a well intentioned jerk…). If he were completely perfect and understanding he would be boring (not to mention terribly unrealistic). And I totally agree with you about the flaws, they make the character special and surprisingly like able (even if you don’t).
The idea of the character not being perfect (despite being a paladin) is great, and I like how both Dark Star Cecil (DSC I’ll say) and BSC reflect this, albiet differently. DSC is far more humble and open minded than his BS counterpart, but is far from perfect (he has to work pretty hard to get used to his brother in Darkstar). But I don’t really need to say this because everyone probably knows this stuff anyway (But I said it). I will say that I found BSC’s reaction to meeting Zeb again, and the mental state Rose (and her mother) found him in afterwards, just excellent. That incident was an entertaining case in point.
totally randomly off topic…Canuovea have you ever taken an AP Lang & Comp class?
AP as in advanced placement? No. I took IB (English, etc etc etc). Similar to AP, but different. Why do you ask?
because im in AP now and your writing style would prolly get you an A in the class…i never woulda thought of it that way but what ur saying makes total
Thanks! Though I find my writing style tends to be a bit all over the place, and it varies tremendously depending on what I’m doing. That being said I like the sound of my own voi- er, comments anyway.
