Ch38 Pg14

*the connection between Zazo and Kip weakens*

Kip: *eyes Drake* And I think… it’s working.

Drake: Yes, but what do we do now? This appears to be the City of Baron.

Kip: Perfect! We can take some time off! Hit the town. See the sights. Snag some dinner. We’ve been doing nothing but capturing crystals for her. I, for one, need a break.

Drake: Dinner.. would be good.

Kip: You have any money?

Drake: Ahh… *as they walk* That’s what killing low-leveled monsters is for.

See Tai, Drake has the right idea here. If you had just done that when Zemi dumped you in the middle of the desert…Everything would have turned out more or less the same. OK, so not the best example but still. At least that way you wouldn’t have to be the water boy, and people probably wouldn’t take you for a child as you haul a pile of monster corpses into town to sell to butchers and/or tanners and such for more money (I know you can’t really do this in the game, but the idea of Tai dragging a pile of monster corpses through town was just too funny). OR, that’s the real explanation for finding gold on monsters who have no business carrying gold around.

Except for the fact that Tai is NOT in any way, shape or form a hunter… he gets ill at the sight of dead carcasses. He wouldn’t touch a dead animal unless it was life or death… and even then… well….

Consider it part of his finicky noble upbringing. XD

Now that’s some character quirk! Then again… I guess nobles in Nefol weren’t big on hunting eh? And it does make a kind of sense, if the marked were dead decaying things… I can understand a desire to not be reminded of them.

Well, the old-world nobles like Zento or JinRai grew up as hunters. Zento lived most his young life in that cave with Zemi and Kudako… so he HAD to hunt to live.

But for those who were born in Nefol and never saw life outside of the civilized city, there was no need to hunt to live.

Honestly, SoYa picked up more of his father’s tendencies (believe it or not) such as light hunting and riding. But Tai was a bit more arrogant and too much of a neat freak to handle that sort of stuff.

As much as Tai appears to be a fighter, even with his temper, he detests death. Probably because, like you said, he’s seen a LOT of it between the Marked and the many wars he’s been in. When he’s in his right mind (not Marked), he’s fairly squeamish about blood and gore… and even his own Marked sometimes makes him feel a little sick to the stomach. XD

Drake and Kip in DS Baron and not trying to cause some kind of catastrophe? Can they NOT cause one? Should be fun… for someone at least!

I just got a terrible mental image of Kip and Drake walking into some fancy upscale restaurant covered in blood from killing monsters. XD

I love Kip’s expression in panel 4, by the way.

Kip would have the sense to get cleaned up. But Drake… I wouldn’t put it past him.

I now have a picture of Kip with a mustache and a suit (with ruffles) sipping tea while watching a blood-covered Drake dig in to a piece of meat. XD

*Wearing her DM expression* Let me see. Drake receives 45 gold pieces, a chocolate chocobo egg, 15 experience and a healing potion. Kip receives 2 experience, a handful of feathers and a dusty fisherman’s hat.

      Two experience… because I’m a higher level than Drake, right? : p

Heh. I’m new here, but I do so enjoy Wayrift. ^_^ And Kip and Drake are the best (along with pretty much every other character). XD

Guess we now know Drake’s day job.

LOL xD I love the nod at the farming required in RPGs. Never did figure out where the money came from. Maybe you take it out of their bellies, and it’s like, left over from the people the monsters ate.

I once read a fanfic where Edgar (FF6) was kind of grossed out by all the rotting monster carcasses that surrounded their camp site from the “random encounters”.
