Ch37 Pg30

Zazo: You can’t beat me — I have the power of the Crystals now. And you have nothing!

Zemi: |: . *sees the little pond of water on the castle lawn* Ah… the pond. *rolls over, batting at Zazo, then pushes with his back legs to throw her into it* There are still some things I know… that you do NOT!

Zazo: AHHHH!! *goes flying, landing in the pond with a sploosh*

What was that saying again Zazo? Old age and trickery beats youth and skill? Well… Zemi is definitely more experienced when it comes to these things… And kicking a wolf into water… now that is funny. I bet there is more to that though. Oh yes.

All the actions are well drawn out… but for some reason I really like the claws in panel three. Both look so similar, almost familial for sure (even if they aren’t actually… hey, I cannot use blood relations for them can I).

Panel one definitely looks like a sibling squabble to me! Perfect.

    • Aywren

Thanks for your impressions! I was happy with how Zazo came out in the first panel. Three felt a little wonky to me, but I let it pass (glad that you did like it). I enjoyed drawing the semi-chibi in the final panel!

Zemi’s only taking a guess that what happens to him might happen to Zazo, too. ^_~

      • Canuovea

HA! That had slipped my mind! Water, silly me. And one would think that the planet would reject the being that is siphoning off it’s energy… then again because she did absorb the planet’s energy in the first place she may be more in tune with that planet then Zemi was… oooh. And we get to wait until Monday (or Sunday night for me) to find out! unless Wren just decides to cut back to OMEGA… which would be evil, but good storytelling.

        • Aywren

Now would I do something like that? XD

          *whispers* Syn might, though….

  2. Nykil

Zemi’s a clever old dragon alright. But why can’t I help but wonder if Zazo is going to react to water the same way he does. I can just imagine a very pissed off wolf rising from the water and glaring murder at Zemi.

    • Aywren

That would probably be a very accurate mental image. ^_~

  3. Rainel

Oh my. Well let’s hope Zemi’s plan works! I mean, the planet rejected him, why shouldn’t it reject Zazo? Of course she has the power of the crystals… so that might change things a little…

*sets up a tent to wait for the next page*

    • Aywren

      Camp out!

      *passes around smoores and marshmellows*

    Zazo: 2
    Zemi: ???

    :)

    • Aywren

I think we need to add rating cards to this as well!

      Zazo’s cannonball… *holds up an 8.5*

      • kishi-keahi

i give her a 9 for unexpectancy and cuteness -cowers from Zazo wrath- i mean…grace yeaaah it was very graceful….go chibi Zazo! -munches on smores- yum~ cant wait!

  5. Gaby

Soooooo… I’m assuming Zazo doesn’t know how to swim. Yet.

    • Aywren

I don’t know.. don’t most animals know how to swim by instinct? Er… wait. Not meaning that Zazo is an animal! I just meant… wolf form. You know? No?

…I’m getting myself in deeper with her, aren’t I?

  6. mizkittycat

ahhh, we’re gonna find out if the plannet likes Zazo as well :p

    • Aywren

You know…. it doesn’t seem like the Blue Planet cares for much of anyone, does it? Tough customer!

  7. Canuovea

I just realized something: If this doesn’t work out for Zemi not only will Zazo be angry but she will also be a very very wet doggy. Wet as in covered in water. Which in turn means that all she has to do to hurt Zemi would be to touch him, or drip on him etc.

And if it does work it might push Zazo over the edge… she seems to already be borderline chaotic…

    • Aywren

Borderline chaotic. Sounds like something from the DSM-IV. XD

  8. Reddragon

Nice kick from zemi there lets just hope it works keep up the good work aywren

p.s the comments on this page are cracking me up ROFL :p

    • Aywren

The comments often have just as much (or more) value than the comic page, IMHO. You guys are a lot of fun! When I go to post a page up, I often ponder what sorts of reactions I’ll see in the comment boxes! :)

Hi, I am the one who posted a little further back on working throught the archives and that the plot, storyline, and artistry completely blew my mind.
I want to say that amidst all of the plots and subplots this artistry still has me in awe. I may have some questions about how to begin a webcomic (I draw mostly freestyle and since I was 12 [1982] I have always wanted to draw a comic). I know style, genre, and supplies are important, so I might ask for some pointers on Tech and “etch a sketch” (style) type questions.
Again, thanks for the wild ride and I hope to keep following your beautiful and inspiring work.

    • Aywren

Hey Jay! Great to meet you! And thanks for your encouragement and kind comments!

I’d be more than willing to help answer any questions that I can. Wayrift is a work in progress, so I’m always learning something new myself — and always willing to pass along anything that someone else can use. So feel free to ask away!

  11. Jay

    P.S.
    GO ZEMI…please don’t die.

    • Aywren

Zemi’s tough. He’ll make it through. No worries! ^_~

  12. Jay

    YAY! :) :) :)

  13. Jay

    bAd ZaZo :P :P :P

  14. Jay

Thanks for your encouragement and I will keep watching.

  15. Sam

If water just zaps arweinydd but doesn’t really do much beyond that doesn’t Zemi need to think of a step 2 soon?

    • Aywren

You have to keep in mind that it’s not so much how much damage that is being done… but the fact that these are creatures that have rarely, maybe never, felt pain before. So a little bit of pain goes a LONG way.

  16. Deanira

I would think that getting zapped would count for quite a bit of damage. But then, that’s just me.

Great story so far, love the style. I’ve actually been reading for a while, just lurking. Keep up the awesome work!

    • Aywren

Good to meet you Deanira! Thanks for dropping a comment — don’t be shy! :)
