Ch27 Pg5

Ben: *picks up his plushie* Marnie! I thought you could keep a secret. *gets up, using it to cover up the fact that he’s a little nervous about sitting next to Leona*
Leona: Well.. what are you going to do about it?
Ben: Do about it? *puts Marnie back on the shelf* What can I do about it? Dad sent me away.
Leona: He just sent you to your room? Parents do that all the time? Even Cecil sends you to your room sometimes?
Ben: Eh… kinda. But that’s different.
Leona: It is? *hops up and rushes forward* How so?
Ben: *looks out the window* …

Kumatsu sez:
*corpses*
enough said.
Ven sez:
Cecil… sends Ben to his room? XDDD
And also, ‘Awww…’
Poor Ben that Cecil feels the need to, and that Ben’s unsure of himself enough to actually go. *hugs*
But yeah, first panel = roflmao. Utterly.
PiKA sez:
*Joins in with the laughter on the first panel* XD Epic!
Cecil sends Ben to his room sometimes? What’s the story behind that? O.o
Aywren sez:
It’s basically the position that Ben’s put himself in while trying to forge trust with Cecil. Ben comes off as fairly child-like at times… part of that is because he really is still developmentally young (he’ll go into his loss of memory in this chapter a little). And because Ben acts young, sometimes Cecil takes the upper hand and acts like the Older Brother rather than the younger.
I wouldn’t wager being sent to his room happens too much — it’s more of a Leona joke. Ben tries really hard to “be good”. It’s a little quirk in his personality… the way he struggles to try to fit in and shove aside the Golbez persona everyone assumes he is.
He discussed some of this with Zeb in previous chapters — how he has made a masked identity in order to get people to like him because he’s afraid that they won’t. (Ie. He’s not as much of a doof as he tries to get people to believe, but he does it so that people will get past the Golbez-fear and give him a chance.)
However, when Leona starts pressing him with questions and gets Ben to talk sincerely, she finds ways to get around these emotional shields that he uses. Ben has a LOT to learn about friendship and family… and he has to learn confidence that people will like him better if he will just be himself. It’s an important role that Leona plays in his growth because she won’t put up with anything less than the truth.
Okay… novel done. Sorry.

the half-lunar master wizard talking to his marnie pushie…i love it ^^! awww poor ben
*gives ben big hug ^^*
Bex sez:
oh and its funny that cecil can send his older brother (three times his size) to his bedroom ^^
Khatz sez:
yay novels!
Thanks that you mention it, I almost forgot about that little talk! *goes back to read it again*
Ven sez:
Little quirks… like his tendency to figuratively explode when angry? ¬¬;
Nah, I get it

Thanks for the info, Aywren… out of interest, was ‘being sent to room’ involved in the chilli-in-food incident that Ben got blamed for?
Bex sez:
i was reading through wayrift
(coz i couldnt remember it ^^;;)
and in chapter 6: light and dark on page eight i noticed that the little picture of leona at the bottem has cat ears but doesnt have her goggles. so are the cat ears there just to make her look cute and forgot the goggles or did you mess up the goggles and change them to cat ears?
Aywren sez:
Ven: Not so sure about the chili-incident. But probably so. XD
Bex: It was there to make her look cute, just a silly exaggeration. It’s somewhat hard to put goggles and cat ears together, so they were left out on purpose. ^_~
Bex sez:
thanks aywren ^^ i was just looking at the oekaki (what ever that means ^^;) and i saw a guy called blue ya. is he a rip on klu ya?
Aywren sez:
Bex: That’s a hard thing to explain. In the original game, KluYa was never seen nor defined. The only thing we knew about him is that he was the spirit-voice on the mountain. Because Square never told us what he looked like, fans were free to make up their own idea of who KluYa was — like Syn has created Aiden.
However, with the newest remake of the game — FFIV DS — Square decided they were going to go and tell backstory about KluYa and Golbez that never existed anymore. A lot of us fans are unhappy about it because for so long, we were able to create our own without the game defining it for us.
Come to find out, the new backstory is really very cheesy. And they designed KluYa to be this bearded guy with black-blueish hair. Nothing at all like most of the fans thought he would be. So Syn gave the new KluYa of the DS version the nickname “BlueYa” to make fun of him.
You don’t want to know what they did to Golbez.
If you do want more information, I’ve posted a story explaining it all in my blog:

Don’t know if links work on here… but tried it anyhow.
Bex sez:
thanks again aywren ^^!
Tirition sez:
Soo…it’s kinda like Ben is re-living his childhood?
Plus, what’s Ben supposed to say, “I almost killed my grandfather, so I got sent to my room”? XD
Tewna sez:
Yeah, first panel is quite adorable.
Sar-fitb sez:
Even my husband, who isn’t really into long, involved story comics (he likes instant gratification), finds the concept of a formerly evil, butt-kicking wizard of extreme power cuddling a chocobo named Marnie hilarious.
Aywren sez:
Sar: Hahah… thanks for letting me know! Great to meet you and your husband. ^_^
Jenna sez:
If only Kip could see him now…
“THAT can’t be Golbez! He’s talking to a Marnie plushie!”
Arialyne sez:
He clings to a lot of childlike items and feelings because, mentally, he is still practically a child. Although how a huge, hulking former dark lord who probably hits his head on most doorways can see himself as a child is beyond me. xD
Oh wait, it’s Zeb who always hits the doorways, not Ben. Hehehehe. *pokes Zeb with stick of doom!*
