You know, Aywren, the way you draw Drake has improved fantastically. OMEGA was just seriously cool from the start, but Drake is so distinctive now that you’d be able to pick him out, even without the hair and tattoos.

Gah, this whole page is utter heart for the art as well as character interaction. The expressions have turned out insanely well… and you can take off the ‘ly’ for Kip.
(…my likewise crackpot brain just added an S and a py to the ends of Kip. What /is/ the world coming to… –; )

Thanks so much Ven! Drake is really a tough character for me to draw, to be honest. And looking back over the older chapters when he was first introduced, I have to agree that I’ve gotten a far better feel for him than I used to. There’s still a number of things I’d like to improve upon for him in the future… but I guess I’ll have plenty of time to practice coming up!

As for Kip and his expressions — they’re the best part about drawing his character. Either in Shimmer or here in Wayrift… Kip is all about what’s written on his face. I was so pleased with how insane his smile came out in that last frame, I just can’t express it. Sometimes, though rare, I can nail down something I have in my head. This was one of those times.

I basically use it as a word to mean to jump someone and take them by force. I didn’t know its origins until I looked it up. So that was interesting to me!

Kip’s face in the last panel, the fact that Drake magically managed to land on his feet–he’s like a kung-fu robot, honestly, physically capable and emotionally blank–and of course Drake’s comment–it all made for a very funny page. Yay!

I’m still learning how to draw wolves, honestly. So a lot of this was practice for me. Most of the time, I look online for reference art to help me when I’m stuck. Finding good examples of poses helps me a lot.
