Ben: *storms across the room, glaring down at Zeb… looking like he wants to yank him off the couch* Yeah… where’s Dad!

Zeb: *looks at Ben unconcerned* Where he belongs.

Ben: *teeth grated* And that means…?

Zeb: *stands up to Ben and looks over him with narrowed eyes* I sent the Lunar and the Professor… home.

Ben: *sarcastic voice* How very generous of you. What’s the catch?

Zeb: *heads out to the kitchen* That is for you, my dear genius… to figure out.

Ben: *growls, swearing a bit in Lunar at Zeb’s back*

Leona: *rolls up her sleeve* Lettme handle this one Ben!

oooh, do we get a translation of what Ben said?

(Ben: *growls, swearing a bit in Lunar at Zeb’s back*) And that’s as close as I’m going to get to translating that (though “shak” is short for “shakka” which you can find in the Glossary). Ben has a bit of a potty mouth when he’s angry. Though the words aren’t actually THAT bad, it’s just not fitting to his character to swear in common.

Hehe I’m like that when I’m really angry too, so I can see it with Ben. Hm, so would you say Lunarian is Ben’s prime language? I think people naturally curse or express immediates like pain in their prime language, since it requires less thought.

Aywren sez:

Good observation, Pen! Ben was raised speaking both Common and Lunarian — though he was never really told the origins of the Lunar language. He does revert to Lunar to express himself during times of extreme emotion… mostly because he’s more comfortable doing so. I’ve also pondered if Lunar isn’t just more poetically expressive?

What do you mean ‘Poetically expressive’?

Or maybe it’s more fun to swear in? Though how you pronounce that I have NO idea…

Lunar (modified Welsh, in my world) has a lot of interesting and beautiful sounds you don’t find in Common. I think it’s more poetic due to that… might just be me and my fixation on listening to Celtic music though! XD
